WOMBLE LEADS THE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
High Point's Davis Womble overcame steady rain and chilly temperatures to shoot 3-under-par 69 and take the lead Saturday at the 21st annual Carolinas PGA Charles Tilghman Junior Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Womble, a junior at Wesleyan, said it was all about being "prepared" for the conditions. His putter carried him to the clubhouse with only one slip-up -- a double-bogey on the par-5 seventh hole. (if only he'd had an hour at golf lessons south manchester before the tournament...!)
"Weather was definitely the toughest part about today, but I was able to make some putts," said Womble, who leads by two strokes heading into today's final round.
In the girls division, Greensboro's Morgan Cranford struggled to a round of 17-over 89. The Grimsley senior is 18th, 21 strokes off the lead.
