Kim Withdraws from Wells Fargo Championship
American golfer Anthony Kim has withdrawn from the third straight PGA event last week after he announced that he would not participate in the Wells Fargo Championship having been unable to shake off the injury in his hand that had been bothering him for quite some time now.
Kim told the officials of the PGA Tour that he has been feeling immense pain in his right elbow and wrist as well as his left thumb, which he had surgically repaired almost two years back now. Although he said that he hasn’t had any structural damage this week, he has been unable to shake of the injury.
WATCH OUT FOR LEWIS
Having made his debut in one of the major events of the PGA Tour calendar, The Open Championships, British golfer Tom Lewis is looking to cement his spot in the professional world of the PGA by putting together a string of results that will help him make a name for himself in the PGA Tour circuit as well.
MCILROY FACES WESTWOOD
Rory Mcilroy is up against Lee Westwood in the very important semi finals of WGC Match play which will be held in Arizona.
If either of the two players end up winning the tournament then Luke Donald of England will have to give up his number one position to him.
Lee Westwood had to beat Martin Laird in the quarter finals to make it against Rory Mcilroy. It was not an easy match for him as he lost the first hole against the Scotsman but ended up winning the match four and two. Rory Mcilroy on the other hand had to get past Sang-Moon Bae to make it to the semi finals.
LEWIS FOLLOWS THE GREATS
Tom Lewis, a 20 year old Englishman, has created history by winning the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award in 2011, earning comparisons between him and the famous Sir Nick Faldo in the process.
Lewis stepped into the lime-light with his opening 65 in the Open Championship, the lowest round made by an amateur in history the Open Championship. He managed the same score in the Portugal Masters and won on his third outing as a professional.
TEACHING PROVIDED TO 75 YOUTH
The Yampa Valley golf course is conducting Jr golf tournaments that will be helping 75 youth get their training. “My favorite thing to do is hit golf balls,” Stout said. “I need to practice more, so I came to play this week. Golf is a lot of fun anyway.”
Stout was one of 75 youths who participated in the first day of the golf course’s junior golf clinic Monday, sponsored by the Free Golf Bet website. The clinic continues today and concludes Wednesday.
JUNIOR GOLF CAMP TO BE HOSTED BY WOMEN'S GOLF
Women's golf will be hosting the Junior golf camp in which many are expected to take part. The Junior Golf Camp aspires to give each camper an experience that will enhance their golf game, both mechanically and mentally.
Campers will have the opportunity to work in small groups and one-on-one with longstanding successful collegiate coaches and some of the finest players in the Pac-10 Conference. Every aspect of how to play and compete will be addressed at camp, including nutritional information, the rules of golf, mental game drills, practice drills, instruction on technique and more.
GOLF FOR JUNIORS STARTS THIS MONTH
Golf Pro Pat Kemball has announced that from the March 16th a number of Junior Golf Clinics will begin. These clinics will run all season long until October 2011.
Age groups are “Little Lakers,” ages 5 to 8; “Champions,” ages 9 to 13; and “Players,” ages 14 to 17.
There will be a weekly, one-hour session for each age group, beginning at 2 p.m. for Little Lakers, 3 p.m. for Champions and 4 p.m. for Players. Clinics will include instruction on all fundamentals of the game, full swing, short game, rules of golf and etiquette. Refreshments and prizes will be included.
AUSTIN WELCOMES JUNIOR GOLF
Austin will be welcoming the latest junior golf tournament that will see different age groups competing against each other. The tournament is the first of eight Junior Golf championship events presented by PGA Tour Superstore in 2011.
Boys and girls ages 8 to 18 will play two rounds on the Crenshaw Cliffside course designed by Austin native and PGA great Ben Crenshaw and partner Bill Coore. The Dallas Morning News rated the Texas Hill Country course 38th among the “50 Best Courses in Texas.” Play begins 8 a.m. on Feb 19 and Feb. 20.
WOMBLE LEADS THE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
High Point's Davis Womble overcame steady rain and chilly temperatures to shoot 3-under-par 69 and take the lead Saturday at the 21st annual Carolinas PGA Charles Tilghman Junior Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Womble, a junior at Wesleyan, said it was all about being "prepared" for the conditions. His putter carried him to the clubhouse with only one slip-up -- a double-bogey on the par-5 seventh hole. (if only he'd had an hour at golf lessons south manchester before the tournament...!)
INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR GOLF COMPETITION
The Second Annual BMW Guam USA Junior Open is scheduled for Dec. 19 and 20 at the Starts Guam Golf Resort in Yigo.
Tee time on both days is 10:30 a.m. Tournament chairman Rene Ong said he is pleased that Guam is hosting a tournament to give some of the island's junior golfers more exposure to an international level of play. "You get the experience without paying the airfare," Ong said.
